Terms

Terms of use

WhatTheFile is a free utility intended to make common online-form photo requirements easier to meet.

Effective and last updated: 22 August 2026

Using the service

You may use WhatTheFile for lawful personal or organisational purposes. You remain responsible for the files you select, the rights to use them and the websites to which you later submit them.

Check the result

WhatTheFile attempts to interpret plain-language requirements and prepare a matching output. Always review the displayed format, dimensions and file size before submitting it. Third-party forms can have undocumented rules, and WhatTheFile cannot guarantee acceptance by any external portal or authority.

No professional or official affiliation

WhatTheFile is an independent utility. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by a government agency, examination authority, employer, visa service or other form provider unless explicitly stated.

Availability and warranties

The service is provided on an “as available” basis without a promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for every purpose. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no implied warranties are made.

Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service operator is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the service, rejected submissions, missed deadlines or loss of a local file. Nothing in these terms excludes a right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes

Features and these terms may change as WhatTheFile develops. Material changes will be reflected by the effective date on this page.
